About Jerry Evans School of Music 


The Jerry Evans School of Music seeks to be one of the top Strings Programs in all of Chicagoland, and provides excellent Violin instruction to all students of any skill level from Dr. Nabaz Abubakir. Whether playing in school orchestra, solo, in an audition orchestra, in a rock band, or just for enjoyment at home, students will receive a thorough Violin education in environment of excellence and fun.

Dr. Abubakir holds his Doctorate in performance (D.M.A.) from the University of Kansas, he holds a Master’s Degree of Performance from Northern Illinois University, and also holds a 2nd Master’s Degree in orchestral conducting from Kansas university. 

The JESM Strings program empowers musicians using proper fundamentals, a core curriculum designed to fit each student’s needs, and helping students connect to music where they can also play music that they choose. From J.S. Bach, to Antonio Vivaldi, to Ludwig Van Beethoven, to the Suzuki method, to Movie/Broadway themes, to Pop/Rock music, or even Bluegrass/Fiddle, a student can learn it at the JESM. Your student will excel in their school’s orchestra and school’s music programs as Dr. Abubakir will work hand in hand with the music of your student’s orchestra teacher. Dr. Abubakir can utilize multiple string method programs in his teaching, and can also utilize the Suzuki method if the parent/student desires.

Violin Lessons at the Jerry Evans School of Music in Wheaton have:

  • An incredible teacher in Dr. Nabaz Abukabir 
  • Technique: Proper instrument placement, hand position, fingering, posture, bowing technique, etc.
  • Music Fundamentals: Sight reading, basic music theory, playing by ear, tonal development, etc.
  • Musicality: Understanding the dynamics and interpretation of classical or modern music, etc.
  • Style: Developing Violin skills in classical and any contemporary style.

The Jerry Evans School of Music also offers a Suzuki Violin Class (ages 4-7) and a Chamber Strings Ensemble (ages 9-18).

Karene Lo Galbo


Karene Lo Galbo holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal and Violin Performance from North Central College, and also previously studied music at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. Karene has been teaching voice, violin, and viola for over 20 years. Karene had the privilege to study under the internationally renowned vocalist, professor of singing (Oberlin), clinician, and author – Richard Miller, as well as studying violin with Annie Jodry at Le Concervatoire de Musique de Fresnes, a branch of Le Concervatoire de musique de Paris in France. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and holds an Early Childhood Musikgarten Certification.

Karene grew up in France and has had extensive musical training in the French National Music Conservatory. Karene has been performing since the age of three. Throughout the years she has developed her vocal ability to perform various genres from pop/rock, jazz, musical theatre all the way to opera arias in various settings and musical groups. She has performed solos in churches, cafes and other venues throughout the US and in Europe. She also has appeared as a soloist in concert in several major works such as Handel’s Messiah.

Karene is passionate about her private teaching and finds a special joy in helping her vocal students find their “voice” and develop it to the best of their ability. Karene can help any student learn music in styles such as Classical, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Opera, and more, and can work using a number of methods, including the Suzuki method. She is driven to meet her students’ needs and help them achieve their vocal goals and aspirations, whatever they may be. Many of her students have won first place in local competitions, and several have gone on to study at prestigious music institutions (Berkeley & DePaul). Karene currently performs with the Glen Ellyn/Wheaton Chorale and their smaller vocal ensemble in several concerts throughout the year.

Karene has directed several local musicals such as George M., The Sound of Music, Hello Dolly, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Willy Wonka and Madagascar, to name a few.
